Artsakh President: I too appealed to Armenia PM to make efforts to stop hostilities (VIDEO)

Today, I met with the factions of the Artsakh Republic National Assembly, Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh) President Arayik Haroutyunyan on Friday morning wrote on Facebook.

"We discussed the current military-political situation on the ground, and the provisions of the trilateral statement.

I have reaffirmed once again that I, too, appealed to the RA [Republic of Armenia] Prime Minister to make efforts to cease the hostilities.

That decision was made taking into account the military situation, as the command of the [Artsakh] armed forces insisted on the need for it. We had some serious problems in the conditions of which the continuation of the war would have led to greater human and territorial losses, including the fall of [the capital] Stepanakert, the blockade of other towns, villages, and thousands of servicemen," Haroutyunyan added.

To note, Russian President Vladimir Putin, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan on Monday night signed a joint statement on a complete cessation of hostilities in and around Artsakh. Accordingly, Russian peacekeepers will be deployed in the region to monitor the implementation of the ceasefire and the cessation of hostilities. But this statement also stipulates the handover of part of Artsakh lands to Azerbaijan.
