Armenia PM chief adviser: Turkey seeks to “swallow” Azerbaijan

Armenia PM chief adviser: Turkey seeks to “swallow” Azerbaijan

The aggression against Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh) was prepared in Turkey, and Ankara's actions pursue several goals. Vagharshak Harutyunyan, Chief Adviser to the Prime Minister of Armenia, stated this at Thursday’s press conference.

According to him, the aim of the Turkish-Azerbaijani-terrorist trilateral alliance was to break through the defense in several directions: From the south, they tried to cross the Iranian border and reach Meghri, Armenia, connecting with Azerbaijan’s Nakhchivan. In the north, they tried to approach Stepanakert and Karvachar, cut the road to Lachin and blockade Artsakh. "However, they not only failed to reach the ultimate goal, but also failed to achieve the goal set on the first day. It must be understood that the war was prepared in Turkey and pursues the goals of neo-Ottomanism. Turkey fulfills its own tasks. One of them is to ‘swallow’ Azerbaijan. The ‘one nation, two states’ formula should be reworded as ‘one nation, one state.’

On the other hand, Turkey is trying to increase its own role and become a key factor within the [OSCE] Minsk Group; this is evidenced also by the attempt to offer Russia a Syrian version in Karabakh,” Harutyunyan said.
