Russia military helicopters escort peacekeepers’ convoys heading to Karabakh

Russian military helicopters have escorted the convoys of Russian peacekeepers heading to Nagorno-Karabakh [(Artsakh)]. This was reported to reporters on Saturday at the Russian Defense Ministry, TASS reports.

"The helicopter squadron pilots have carried out the tasks of protecting and escorting the convoys of the peacekeeping forces en route from Erebuni Airport [of Yerevan] to Goris [of Armenia] and [Artsakh capital] Stepanakert settlements," the ministry said.

These helicopters monitor the ceasefire and the cessation of hostilities in the Karabakh conflict zone, as well as the Russian peacekeeping logistics equipment and personnel.

Russian Defense Minister Sergey Shoygu had said that the Russian military transport aircrafts have transported 1,103 Russian servicemen and 168 units of equipment to Nagorno-Karabakh within three days.

Russian President Vladimir Putin, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan on Monday night signed a joint statement on a complete cessation of hostilities in and around Artsakh. Accordingly, Russian peacekeepers will be deployed in the region to monitor the implementation of the ceasefire and the cessation of hostilities. But this statement also stipulates the handover of part of Artsakh lands to Azerbaijan.
