Armenia’s Pashinyan comments on his controversial social media post at night

Armenia’s Pashinyan comments on his controversial social media post at night

We all know that our society is quite tense for obvious reasons, and in connection with yesterday's post, I can say that a number of reactions have shown how manipulative mechanisms work especially in this tense period. Armenia’s Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan stated this Monday, during his online press conference.

He first read this post, then continued: "You are aware that after the well-known November 9, volunteers and soldiers from the front line record videos and publish them on the Internet, where they say words of support to the government, give some assessments. In many cases, here there are very in-depth analyzes based on the events that took place before the eyes of these guys.

I write: ‘Guys, you are right, I am waiting for you in Yerevan.’ It is this sentence that has given rise to say that there is a call for civil war and conflict. If our compatriots are careful, they will see that many of these soldiers are being demobilized and returning to their families. Many of these people, groups, and even detachments send me messages that they want to meet with me, and I felt it necessary to respond publicly, that of course I will meet with them and organize the discussion.

In the next sentence I said: ‘To finally resolve the issues of those whining under the walls.’ Of course, there is a rather harsh wording here. But taking into account that we also learned yesterday that this phrase is also used by official bodies, yes, I used that phrase. This means that after the return of the front line soldiers or during the meeting with them, all the rumors that are being put into a very active circulation, which are about the involvement of the military-political leadership of the Republic of Armenia in some conspiracies, will fade once and for all. Who, if not the soldier on the battlefront, knows the answer to that question? It is important for me to communicate with them, to listen to their assessments."

The Armenian PM added that no one returns to Yerevan armed from the front line. "There are special checkpoints where the law enforcement representatives there escort those groups to military units, they hand over their weapons in accordance with the established procedure, and yesterday I had another conversation on that topic with the head of the Military Police that we rule out anyone from reaching Yerevan with weapons.

There is a delicate matter here that the videos published from the front line have a very harsh vocabulary, which is worrying. We all saw what happened on the night of November 9-10 in Yerevan; the government, the National Assembly buildings, and the Kond [district governmental] mansions SNCO were attacked. This violence was not condemned by political forces. This is a very important circumstance. Even the ombudsman did not condemn these attacks. Condemnation was uttered [solely] by soldiers on the front lines.

In this context, I consider it very important that, of course, we must exclude hate speech and civil strife in Armenia. What civil war” Who is talking about it? I want to say that the law enforcement system of the Republic of Armenia has enough potential not to permit such a thing.

Now a question will be posed as top why all that was not prevented on the night of November 9. For a very simple reason because the same police forces, the NSS [National Security Service], even a large part of the state security were on the front lines.

When I am accused of conspiracy, does the government that goes to conspiracy send the NSS, the police, and the state security service to maintain the front line, leaving itself in a state of defenseless, enter into the conspiracy?

I consider the speculations related to my post inappropriate. I believe that the soldiers being demobilized from the front line also have the right to have an opinion. If they want to meet with me at auditorium conditions and I agree, there is nothing reprehensible in that. They are the bearers of the truth about events, aren't they? If there is a conspiracy, let it be revealed and all the guilty be punished. But, sorry, it is not easy to assess from Yerevan those who do not know the whole situation.

I am convinced that there is no military-political conspiracy, but I have to listen to those guys as well. Let us clarify, realize what happened, why it happened, and whether there are culprits who should be punished.

What does a call for civil war mean? Does the country's prime minister call for a civil war? Where is it written like that? Such a manipulative approach should not be taken.

If there is an issue of engaging, involving the front line soldiers, the government has all the levers; the [current] martial law regime [in Armenia] allows also for the engagement of the armed forces in the tasks of maintaining public order, too. Is there a need to make a post for that on a social media, even if we look at it by that logic?

I hope that those who misunderstood my post will reconsider their assessment," Nikol Pashinyan concluded.
