Armenia PM on holding snap parliamentary elections

Armenia PM on holding snap parliamentary elections

During the war we had at least two Security Council sessions, in which took part the President of the Republic of Armenia, and in one of them—His Holiness [the Catholicos of All Armenians], as well as the National Assembly representatives. We had meetings with political forces; they were generally aware of the trends. Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan stated this Monday, during his online press conference, and referring to the question as to whether the MPs, ministers, and the President were aware of the well-known statement, whether this means that those institutions do not work, and whether the PM believed that the viable legal successors of those institutions should be formed by way of a snap parliamentary election.

"Yes, there were many nuances related to specificity, which cannot be considered to be discussed because there was a situation when a decision had to be made within hours, and those decisions were made in a very limited time—in consultation with the Armed Forces General Staff and the Artsakh [(Nagorno-Karabakh)] leadership. Specific events were unfolding that needed to be addressed.

As for the activities of the institutions, they work, they will work. I now consider it very important that we fully guarantee stability and public safety, and we must focus on that issue. The parliament, the President of the Republic of Armenia, the other institutions should work today, and the activities of all of us should be aimed at ensuring stability and security. I am convinced that these institutions are able, have a mandate and authority to act," Pashinyan added.
