Armenia FM: Yerevan supports deployment of monitors in Nagorno-Karabakh

Minister of Foreign Affairs of Armenia Zohrab Mnatsakanyan says Yerevan supports the deployment of monitors in Nagorno-Karabakh.

According to Mnatsakanyan, Yerevan has always supported the idea of constant monitoring of the ceasefire regime that the Co-Chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group proposed after the escalation of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict in April 2016. Mnatsakanyan added that Armenia and Azerbaijan had agreed to expand the group of monitors of the Special Representative of the co-chairing country of the OSCE and create a mechanism for investigation into the ceasefire violations.

“However, after that, Azerbaijan refused to fulfill the agreements. This goes to show once again that Azerbaijan has never been interested in a sustainable and verifiable ceasefire, but Armenia’s position remains unchanged, and we support the deployment of monitors,” Mnatsakanyan told RIA Novosti.

As far as the deployment of peacekeepers is concerned, Mnatsakanyan stated that only peaceekepers with a neutral position can be among the potential peacekeepers. According to him, “peacekeeping has always been a part of the main principles, and therefore, the key component of the settlement of the conflict.”
